The HCNS afternoon OUTDOOR program began with great success in 2015. This play-based, education program provides children ages 3-pre-k with hands-on experiences in nature. The program also provides an extended day option for those students enrolled in the morning program. Here's a closer look at how our children learn in and about nature:
***As we explore the nature that surrounds us in the Upper Valley, the children have the opportunity to follow their curiosity, explore the elements in all seasons, and experience all the wonder and excitement that the outdoors has to offer us.
***Together, we design and create an outdoor exploration space, make tools, cook over a fire, explore the creek and river, listen and observe, build forts, hike trails, create art, learn new songs, and play outdoor games.
***We research NH and VT native species of animals, plants and insects, and the habitats needed to support these species. The children investigate and create their favorite species using science, math, language and art.
This biweekly-themed program runs Monday through Thursday from 12:30-3:00, but families have the option to sign up for 1-4 days a week for the entire year.
HCNS has been an absolute wonderful experience for our twin daughters. They always come home with a big smile and full of excitement about what they did that day at school. We have also really enjoyed being the helping parent and being able to share with our daughters the special place that HCNS is.Anna
